Lundu, 24 December 2025 – The Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal immigrants during a targeted operation along Jalan Lundu–Biawak in Kampung Tanjam, Lundu.
The operation, conducted under the codename Ops Serkap, involved a team of 10 enforcement officers who were on high alert for human trafficking activities in the area. During the patrol, officers intercepted a Mitsubishi Grandis multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) suspected of being used for migrant smuggling.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered six foreign passengers inside the vehicle, alongside a driver, who was also a foreign national. All seven individuals were immediately detained and taken for questioning. The enforcement team confirmed that investigations are ongoing under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670).
The Mitsubishi Grandis, believed to have been used to transport the illegal immigrants, was also seized for further investigation. Officers stated that operations like Ops Serkap are part of continuous efforts to curb human trafficking and illegal migration across Sarawak, particularly in border areas vulnerable to such activities.
Kuching Immigration officials reiterated their commitment to safeguarding Malaysia’s borders and urged the public to report any suspicious activities that may involve migrant smuggling. The successful interception underscores the effectiveness of coordinated enforcement operations in maintaining national security and protecting vulnerable individuals from human trafficking syndicates.
The case will continue to be investigated, and authorities are expected to take further legal action against all parties involved in this smuggling attempt.
