KUCHING – The popular Kuching Car Free Morning (KCFM) initiative is set to return for its January 2026 edition, offering residents a chance to embrace healthier lifestyles while enjoying traffic-free streets.
Organised by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), the event will take place on Sunday, 4 January 2026, from 6 am to 10 am.
Several key locations will be transformed into activity zones, including Padang Merdeka, Tebingan Kuching, Pangkalan Sapi and Dataran Ibu Pertiwi.
The programme encourages the public to kick-start their New Year’s resolutions by engaging in outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, jogging and group exercises.
It also provides a platform for families and friends to spend quality time together in a safe and vibrant environment free from vehicles.
DBKU has highlighted that Car Free Morning is not only about promoting fitness but also about fostering community spirit and environmental awareness.
By reducing traffic in designated areas, the event helps lower carbon emissions while encouraging sustainable urban living.
Since its introduction, KCFM has become a regular feature in Kuching’s calendar, attracting participants of all ages.
The initiative has been praised for creating a lively atmosphere in the city centre, where residents can enjoy recreational activities, cultural performances and food stalls without the usual congestion.
Local organisers have urged residents to share the event details with friends and family, ensuring wider participation.
They also encouraged the public to follow DBKU’s official Facebook page for updates and announcements regarding future editions.
With the New Year often associated with personal goals such as fitness and wellness, the January 2026 edition of KCFM is expected to draw strong attendance.
The event provides an accessible opportunity for individuals to take the first step towards a healthier body and mind while reconnecting with the community.
As Kuching continues to promote sustainable initiatives, Car Free Morning remains a cornerstone of efforts to balance urban development with environmental responsibility and public wellbeing.
