Al-Aqsa Imam Commends Malaysia’s Support for Palestinians

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy call from Sheikh Ali Umar Yaqoub Abbasi, the Imam of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, during a meeting that underscored Malaysia’s ongoing support for the Palestinian cause.

The discussion centred on the significance of safeguarding the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the future of Al-Quds. Both leaders agreed on the importance of continued cooperation to ensure that the holy site remains protected amid ongoing tensions in the region.

Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the MADANI Government, which include humanitarian assistance and diplomatic advocacy aimed at supporting Palestinians in Gaza and Jerusalem.

He reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to standing firmly with Palestine, emphasising that the country’s efforts are not only political but also humanitarian, extending to education, healthcare, and relief aid.

Sheikh Ali Umar expressed his gratitude to Malaysia, acknowledging the consistent prayers and tangible support provided by the government and its people. He noted that Malaysia’s contributions have been vital in sustaining Palestinian communities facing hardship under occupation.

Malaysia has long been vocal in international forums about the plight of Palestinians, consistently calling for an end to violence and the recognition of their rights.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Malaysia’s stance is rooted in principles of justice and solidarity, and that the ECRL of support will continue under the MADANI framework.

The Imam’s visit follows Malaysia’s recent pledges to expand aid to Baitulmaqdis (Al-Aqsa), including education and healthcare programmes, as part of broader efforts to strengthen resilience among Palestinian communities.

These initiatives align with Malaysia’s longstanding foreign policy of supporting oppressed peoples and advocating for peace in the Middle East.

The meeting also highlighted Malaysia’s role in fostering international awareness of the situation in Palestine.

By engaging religious leaders such as Sheikh Ali Umar, Malaysia seeks to amplify the voices of those directly affected by the conflict and ensure that the global community remains attentive to the challenges faced by Palestinians.

As tensions persist in Gaza and Jerusalem, Malaysia’s leadership continues to stress the importance of unity among Muslim nations in defending Al-Aqsa and supporting the Palestinian struggle.

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing hope that Malaysia’s efforts, alongside those of the wider international community, will contribute to a future of peace and justice in the region.

“May Allah SWT always bless our efforts to continue to stand with our brothers in Palestine in opposing the violence of the Zionist regime of Israel.” Anwar said.
