IGAN – The RM1.577 million Igan Waterfront Phase 3 project, covering more than 400 metres, is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by 25 March 2026, providing enhanced riverbank protection and improved public facilities for the community.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and Jemoreng Assemblyman, Dato’ Murshid DiRaja Dr Juanda Jaya, said the project is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the Igan River through the construction of erosion control embankments.
He emphasised that the initiative is vital for long-term environmental protection and community safety.
During a site inspection on Monday, Dato’ Murshid expressed confidence that residents would be able to enjoy the upgraded waterfront facilities in time for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“The Igan River Erosion Control Embankment Construction Project is an initiative to protect the river in this area. God willing, by March during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the people of Igan will be able to enjoy the Igan Waterfront Phase 3,” he said.
He underscored the importance of maintaining construction quality, urging contractors to comply strictly with established building standards to ensure durability and consistency with earlier phases of the waterfront project.
Continuous monitoring will be carried out to ensure workmanship standards are upheld throughout the construction period.
Dato’ Murshid also called on local leaders, including Community Chiefs and Heads (KMKK) as well as the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK), to support the project’s implementation and encourage residents to cooperate fully with contractors.
Timely completion remains a priority, with the Deputy Minister expressing hope that all construction works will proceed according to schedule.
The project is expected to deliver not only improved infrastructure but also greater resilience against erosion, benefiting the community for years to come.
The Igan Waterfront development is part of Sarawak’s broader strategy to strengthen riverbank protection while enhancing public amenities, ensuring that local communities enjoy safer and more sustainable living environments.
