KUCHING – His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, today attended Friday prayers at the Sarawak State Mosque (Kuching Jamek Mosque), underscoring the importance of unity and spiritual devotion among the state’s Muslim community.
Tun Pehin Sri’s arrival was warmly received by YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain, Honorary Secretary of the Sarawak Islamic Council (LAKMNS), together with senior officials including Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mohamad Feisal bin Said and Chief Management Officer Abang Bikusary bin Haji Kadir.
The prayers were led by Al-Fadhil Ustaz Haji Mohammad Ihsan bin Haji Haidzir, Deputy Grand Imam of Sarawak, who also delivered a sermon entitled “Knowledge Lived, Glory Obtained”. The Khutbah emphasised the value of applying knowledge in daily life as a path to honour and harmony.
The congregation included prominent state leaders such as Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, and Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar.
Their presence highlighted the close relationship between Sarawak’s leadership and its people, reinforcing the role of faith in governance and community life.
Before departing, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi spent time engaging with those who attended the prayers, presenting envelopes of donations to children and greeting members of the congregation.
His gesture was seen as a symbol of compassion and solidarity, strengthening ties between the state’s leadership and the Muslim community.
In his closing remarks, the Governor prayed that Muslims would take lessons from the Khutbah, live in harmony, and continue to uphold Islamic values in their daily lives.
The event reflected the spirit of togetherness and reinforced the mosque’s role as a centre of faith, unity, and community engagement in Sarawak.
