Eight Lubok Antu KMKK Reappointed to Strengthen Grassroots Governance

LUBOK ANTU – Eight community leaders in Lubok Antu have been reappointed as Ketua Masyarakat dan Ketua Kaum (KMKK), reaffirming the government’s confidence in their role as vital intermediaries between state administration and local communities.

The reappointment ceremony was officiated by Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak.

He emphasised that the renewed appointments are not merely symbolic recognition but carry significant responsibility.

Each KMKK, he said, must uphold integrity, adhere to established guidelines and align their work with government policies and aspirations.

Dr Malcolm highlighted the strategic importance of KMKK in ensuring effective communication between government agencies and rural communities.

He explained that their responsibilities include facilitating development programmes, resolving community issues and ensuring that government initiatives reach the grassroots level efficiently.

“The reappointment is a trust and a duty. KMKK must carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and discipline, ensuring that every initiative benefits the people,” he said.

The eight leaders who received their letters of reappointment are Pemanca Grang Juben, Pemanca Chua Kee Long, Penghulu Jaul Lutau, Penghulu Klingsing Manau, Penghulu Manai Jalak, Penghulu Johnson Tanpa, Penghulu Entri Balai, and Penghulu Temeling. Their tenure ranges from one to two years, depending on the appointment terms.

Dr Malcolm also stressed that KMKK play a crucial role in rural development, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, education and community welfare.

By acting as a bridge between government and citizens, they help ensure that policies are implemented effectively, and that local concerns are addressed promptly.

The ceremony was attended by Lubok Antu District Officer Akoi Ejau, alongside other community representatives.

The presence of district officials underscored the collaborative nature of grassroots governance, where KMKK work hand in hand with local authorities to strengthen community resilience and development.

The reappointment reflects Sarawak’s broader commitment to empowering local leadership as part of its rural transformation agenda.

By reinforcing the role of KMKK, the state aims to enhance community participation, improve service delivery and ensure that rural areas benefit from ongoing development initiatives.
