SARIKEI – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rural development with the rollout of several infrastructure projects under the People Friendly Project (PMR) 2025, aimed at improving facilities and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the district.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei Member of Parliament, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, said the initiative focuses on strengthening basic infrastructure to support mobility and socioeconomic growth in rural areas.
“The implementation of this project is expected to provide long-term benefits to the local population, in addition to boosting a more balanced and inclusive development,” he stated in remarks delivered on Tuesday.
Among the projects completed are the upgrading and construction of a concrete road at Lot 198, Jalan Ulu Meradong–Bakong, Bintangor, and the improvement and construction of a footpath in Kampung Darul Falah, Sungai Gemuan, Bintangor. These works are designed to ease movement for residents and improve accessibility to essential services.
Additionally, a project to upgrade and build concrete roads along Jalan Hashim, Kampung Darul Falah, Sungai Gemuan has been carried out, with the aim of enhancing safety and comfort for road users. Local residents are expected to benefit from smoother travel and reduced risks associated with poor road conditions.
The PMR 2025 programme in Sarikei reflects the state government’s broader strategy to empower rural communities by providing reliable infrastructure. Officials emphasised that these projects are not only about physical improvements but also about fostering community wellbeing and supporting long-term economic resilience.
Dato’ Sri Huang, who also serves as the Repok State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) member, was represented at the session by Wong Soon Mee. The representation underscored the collaborative effort between elected leaders and implementing agencies to ensure projects are delivered effectively.
Observers note that the PMR initiative complements Sarawak’s wider development agenda, including the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which seeks to achieve inclusive growth across urban and rural areas. By focusing on infrastructure such as roads and footpaths, the government is addressing immediate community needs while laying the foundation for future socioeconomic opportunities.
Residents in Bintangor and surrounding areas have welcomed the improvements, highlighting the importance of safe and accessible roads in daily life. The projects are expected to reduce travel difficulties, improve connectivity between villages, and support local economic activities.
With PMR 2025 underway, Sarikei continues to benefit from targeted investments that prioritise comfort, safety, and wellbeing, reinforcing Sarawak’s vision of balanced development across all regions.
