KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has launched a targeted clean-up operation to dismantle abandoned and damaged hawker stalls in Taman Desa Ilmu, reinforcing its commitment to public cleanliness and community safety.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Wednesday by the MPKS LA Serve Team, focused on structures that had been left unused or neglected for extended periods.
According to the council, these stalls had become unsightly, posed safety hazards, and risked contributing to environmental pollution.
Council officials explained that all seized structures and items from the operation will be disposed of in accordance with established procedures and local authority regulations.
The move is part of MPKS’s wider initiative to maintain the beauty of the urban landscape and ensure the comfort of residents.
In a statement, MPKS stressed that the operation was not only about removing derelict structures but also about safeguarding the image of Kota Samarahan as a growing township.
The council highlighted that neglected stalls can undermine the area’s appeal, discourage visitors, and create potential health risks if left unchecked.
The council also reminded traders of their responsibility to maintain cleanliness in business areas, urging them to take advantage of trading opportunities responsibly.
Traders were further advised to comply with food safety standards, ensuring that meals prepared for the public are safe, hygienic, and of good quality.
MPKS emphasised that cooperation between traders, residents, and local authorities is essential to sustaining a clean and cheerful environment.
The council noted that community participation plays a vital role in ensuring that urban spaces remain safe and welcoming for all.
This operation reflects broader efforts by Sarawak’s municipal councils to strengthen urban management and improve public facilities.
Similar initiatives have been rolled out in other districts, underscoring the state’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
By addressing abandoned structures, MPKS aims to prevent potential hazards while promoting a more vibrant and orderly township.
The council reaffirmed its pledge to continue proactive measures that support urban development and community well-being.
