BINTULU: Authorities were alerted this morning after a body was discovered in Sungai Kemena, near the bustling Pasar Tamu area, prompting an ongoing police investigation.
According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), a call was received at 10.36 am requesting assistance for special service operations at the scene. A team from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) promptly arrived just two minutes later at 10.38 am.
Upon arrival, the officers noted that the body had already been recovered by the Marine Police Force and taken to the nearby jetty. The fire and rescue personnel remained at the site to provide monitoring and ensure security throughout the operation.
“The fire department’s role was strictly limited to overseeing the area and maintaining safety during the recovery process,” the spokesperson said in an official statement.
Following standard procedure, the body was handed over to the police for further action. Investigations are now underway to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculating until official statements are released.
