SAMARAHAN – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar was seen after he performed Friday prayers at a luncheon ceremony in Samarahan on 23 January.
It was held at the Government Rest House in Samarahan Division, and hosted by YB Dato Haji Idris bin Buang, State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Muara Tuang and Deputy Speaker of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly and his wife Datin Nurhidayah.
His arrival was greeted with a ‘Selamat Datang’s speech from Datuk Hajah Rubiah binti Wang, Kenyalang state assemblywoman as well as the member of Parliament for Kota Samarahan and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Malaysia plus other officers that are attached to the Samarahan District Office.
The luncheon was graced by various dignitaries such as Encik Mohamad Irwan bin Bahari Bujang, Resident of Samarahan Division, Ustaz Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud, Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department and Temenggong Haji Chek bin Bujang. Their presence lent weight to the meeting, which was a gathering of leaders and local activists.
The event presented Tun Pehin Sri with an avenue to relate personal experiences and ruminations as well as to provide some guidance and views for local leaders. The casual atmosphere helped further the community representatives closer with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, besides building rapport and engagement.
Prior to leaving the area, Tun Pehin Sri also took a photo with dignitaries and employees of the Samarahan District Office. The warmth and esteem in which the Governor is held by people was evident as many queued up to talk to him.
Speaking during the luncheon, Tun Pehin Sri thanked his hosts for their warm hospitality. He said he was delighted they made the efforts to show appreciation, adding “on behalf of leaders in Samarahan Division who have been working very hard … for this community. The luncheon demonstrated that good working relationship between provincial leadership and local communities had been established, stressing the importance of such meetings in fostering cooperation and understanding.
