KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) held its first Child Friendly City Initiative (CFCI) Meeting No. 1/2026 on 24 January at 9:30 am in the PPNS Meeting Room.
Chaired by the Municipal Deputy Chairman, the meeting brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including Councilors from the Standing Committee for Community Development & Tourism, members of the CFCI Committee, Children’s Council representatives, MPKS Division Heads, and the CFCI Secretariat.
Discussions focused on planning and implementing child-friendly city initiatives across the MPKS administrative area, exploring ways to create safer, more inclusive, and supportive urban environments that reflect children’s voices and perspectives in local development policies.
The presence of the Children’s Council highlighted the initiative’s commitment to participatory governance, where children actively contribute to decisions that affect their lives. This aligns with the broader goals of the CFCI, which aims to integrate children’s rights into municipal planning and community development.
Councilors stressed that the initiative goes beyond infrastructure, focusing on fostering a culture of inclusivity where education, recreation, and safety are prioritised. Collaboration among community leaders, parents, and children is expected to strengthen Kota Samarahan’s child-friendly policy framework.
The meeting also emphasised the importance of aligning local efforts with international child rights standards, ensuring MPKS continues to build a sustainable, supportive environment for future generations.
