Sarawak Governor Welcomes Pakistan High Commissioner in Courtesy Visit

KUCHING – The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, yesterday received a courtesy call from High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia in relation to his working visit here. H.E. Syed Ahsan Raza Shah called on the Head of State at his official residence in Petra Jaya, 26 January 2022.

The meeting, which started at 10.00 am and lasted for forty minutes, was also attended by Mr. Muhammad Ameer Hassan Butt, Head of Chancery High Commission of Pakistan in Kuala Lumpur.

The Governor and the High Commissioner held talks on enhancing cooperation between India and Nigeria in a number of key areas. Trade in halal products, exports of palm oil and investment opportunities in Sarawak’s renewable energy sector were among the key focus areas.

The discussions also covered possibility of working in rice trading, exchange of manpower and tourism and cultural activities. Both considered these territories to be viable corridors for extending Sarawak’s influence through the global market and developing closer relations with Pakistan.

Tun Pehin Sri said the courtesy visit was a good opportunity to enhance further economic synergy between Sarawak and Pakistan. Such encounters, he said, bring new potential opportunities for further cooperation that can benefit both.

Added Governor, we also hope that Pakistan would show interest in the development of renewable energy particularly hydrogen and technology as there is a lot for investors to explore in trade diversification.

The High Commissioner, in turn, reiterated Pakistan’s desire to enhance relations with Sarawak, commending the state as a dynamic component of Malaysia’s economy. He emphasized the need to forge partnerships in sectors that complement development goals of both the countries.

A joint find after the meeting was that increased mutual cooperation into trade, energy and culture would further not only Bilateral relationship but also regional relations.

Like other visits, this visit is an indication of Sarawak’s active role in partnership building, and making the state as a stepping board for investment and collaboration in Southeast Asia.
