KUCHING — The Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division has successfully detained 57 foreigners during a two-day operation aimed at monitoring and controlling the presence of undocumented individuals in the city. Authorities say the operation is part of their ongoing efforts to uphold the law and ensure public order in densely populated areas.
The operation, which began on 2 February, deployed 28 enforcement officers to carry out thorough inspections at 19 strategic locations across Kuching. These included food and beverage establishments in Metrocity Business Centre, offices at MJC Business Centre in Batu Kawa, and several business premises along Batu 7, Jalan Kuching – Serian.
In addition to commercial locations, officers also visited a construction site in Kampung Stakan Melayu to ensure foreign workers on-site were in compliance with immigration and employment regulations. The raids focused on verifying the authenticity of identification documents, work permits, and other legal paperwork.
Immigration authorities stressed that the detained individuals will undergo further checks to determine the status of their documents and work permits under current legal provisions. Officers confirmed that the operation was carried out systematically and professionally to avoid disrupting normal business activities while enforcing the law.
The Kuching Immigration Division emphasised that such operations will be conducted regularly to curb the presence of foreigners who do not comply with proper procedures. Officials also reminded business owners and employers to ensure their foreign workers are legally documented, warning that failure to do so may result in penalties or prosecution.
This operation reflects the continued commitment of local authorities to maintain order, protect the rights of lawful residents, and enforce regulations that ensure the city operates smoothly. Kuching residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing confidence that these measures will help create a safer and more lawful community environment.
