JPJ Sarawak Holds Dialogue with Driving Institute Operators

SIBU – In an initiative to strengthen the transportation management in Sarawak, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak had a dialogue session with driving institute businessmen throughout this state on 5 February 2026 at Premier Hotel Sibu.

The training programme saw the attendance of 25 participants who were driving instructors from a few districts in Sarawak. The programme was established to enhance strategic partnership and facilitate exchange on policies and regulations concerning the driving permit.

The dialogue featured YBrs. Tuan Norizan bin Jili, JPJ Sarawak’s Director, and YBrs. Tuan Mohd Kamal Hisham bin Abu Bakar, Director of the Driver Licensing Division, JPJ Malaysia, in their panel. The session was chaired by Tuan Yusniman bin Mohamad, Head of the Driver Licensing Division of JPJ Sarawak.

Conversations revolved around meeting licensing requirements, operational challenges of driving schools and how to improve driver instruction. JPJ officers said it was important to impart discipline, morals or ethics and wise driving to safeguard all road users.

The conversation also provided an opportunity for cabbies to vent and express their opinions on current industry policy to institute operators. The participants also cited the important continuation of JPJ-industry interaction to meet new challenges in road safety and driver instruction.

“JPJ Sarawak hopes to engage with driving institutes through the session in efforts to enhance collaboration between us so that training standards will not vary and are all on par with those stipulated by the national authority,” he added. The ministry repeated its commitment to backing driving schools as an active partner in producing responsible drivers.

Through facilitating open discussion, JPJ seeks to create a collaborative culture which focuses on road safety and conformity. The effort is part of the department’s larger mission to protect the public by promoting robust regulation and engagement with stakeholders.
