Malaysia, AIIB Strengthen Cooperation on Sustainable Infrastructure

KUALA LUMPUR – Finance Minister II, YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, received a courtesy call from Ms Kim See Lim, Chief Investment Officer of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), on 4 February 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening Malaysia-AIIB collaboration, particularly through proposed financing for private sector projects.

Discussions highlighted the upcoming signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Maybank, CIMB, AmBank, and BPMB, aimed at supporting sustainable and technology-driven infrastructure initiatives across ASEAN.

Key areas of cooperation include renewable energy projects and energy grids such as the ASEAN Power Grid, as well as transportation and digital infrastructure.

These initiatives are designed to enhance regional connectivity, promote sustainability, and stimulate economic growth.

Minister Amir Hamzah emphasised Malaysia’s commitment to partnerships that align with national and regional development goals.

He noted that working with AIIB would accelerate investment in critical infrastructure, helping Malaysia and ASEAN stay competitive in the global economy.

Ms Kim-See Lim affirmed AIIB’s readiness to support Malaysia’s vision, highlighting the bank’s focus on projects that combine sustainability with innovation.

She also stressed the crucial role of private sector involvement in transforming infrastructure across the region.

The courtesy call marked another step in Malaysia’s efforts to deepen engagement with international financial institutions, reinforcing the country’s role as a key player in ASEAN’s sustainable development agenda.
