KUCHING – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kuching Operations Unit carried out Ops Luxury and Ops Foreign Drivers (PEWA) on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, through patrols and monitoring across Kuching city, alongside static inspections at Jalan MJC Batu Kawa.
The enforcement operation focused on ensuring compliance with road regulations among both commercial and private vehicles. A total of 753 vehicles were inspected during the exercise, with several offences detected.
These included drivers without valid driving licences, the absence of Goods Driving Licence (GDL) vocational permits, and technical violations relating to vehicle safety standards.
Authorities confirmed that seven vehicles were seized during the operation. The breakdown included:
- Three motorcycles
- Three motorcars (one linked to PEWA and one categorised under Luxury)
- One lorry
The seized vehicles were found to have expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) or lacked insurance coverage, both of which are serious breaches of road safety laws.
JPJ Sarawak emphasised that enforcement operations such as these are part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring road users comply with regulations.
The department reiterated that road safety depends on adherence to licensing requirements and proper vehicle documentation.
Officials reminded the public to check their vehicle licences and insurance validity before travelling. Failure to comply not only risks enforcement action but also endangers road safety for all.
Ops Luxury and Ops Foreign Drivers are among JPJ’s targeted enforcement strategies, designed to address specific categories of offences.
By focusing on luxury vehicles and foreign drivers, the department aims to ensure that all road users, regardless of background, meet the same legal standards.
The operation reflects JPJ’s wider mission to uphold integrity and accountability in road transport management.
