Python Captured After Attempted to Eat Chicken in Spaoh

SPAOH – A python was successfully captured after being discovered inside a chicken coop at Kampung Hulu Spaoh on 18 January.

The incident was reported by Puan Ella, who noticed unusual noises coming from her chicken enclosure. Upon checking, she found a python inside the coop. Without delay, she contacted the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Spaoh for assistance.

The Bravo Squad, led by Sjn (PA) Hasla Bin Deli and supported by three members, rushed to the location. On arrival, the team found the reptile inside the cage. The python had already killed one of the complainant’s chickens.

APM members acted swiftly, trapping the snake and securing it in the Poisonous Animal Box. The python, measuring approximately seven feet in length, was later released back into its natural habitat.

Authorities confirmed that the operation was carried out safely, with no injuries reported. Equipment and logistics were returned to PKOD in good condition following the capture.

Officials reminded residents to remain vigilant when encountering wild animals and to seek professional help rather than attempting to handle such situations themselves. Pythons, though non-venomous, can pose risks due to their size and strength.

Snake sightings in rural areas are not uncommon, particularly near livestock enclosures where food sources may attract them. Community members are encouraged to report such cases promptly to ensure safety and prevent harm to both people and animals.

The successful capture highlights the importance of cooperation between residents and emergency services in maintaining safety within villages. APM Spaoh expressed appreciation to the complainant for her quick action in alerting authorities.
