MUKAH – A snake removal operation in Mukah ended without incident after a quick response from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) on Sunday.
The reptile, identified as a buffalo rib snake measuring about 1.5 metres, was spotted in the yard of a residential home. After receiving an emergency call, the APM Mukah team moved in and used a snaring technique to capture it. The situation was brought under control within a short time.
No injuries or property damage were reported. The snake was secured safely, and officers confirmed the area was safe for residents.
Encounters like this are not unusual in Sarawak, especially in neighbourhoods near vegetation or water. Wildlife specialists often remind the public that snakes play a role in keeping ecosystems balanced. Still, when they appear in homes or gardens, trained personnel should handle the situation.
APM Mukah thanked residents for alerting the authorities promptly. The team reiterated its readiness to respond to emergencies and urged the public not to approach or attempt to catch snakes on their own, as improper handling leads to serious injury.
For emergencies in Mukah, APM is reachable at 084-872814, with services operating around the clock. The agency continues to respond to incidents ranging from wildlife disturbances to natural disasters, working to keep the community safe.
This case reflects how swift reporting and cooperation help prevent harm and ensure a safe outcome for everyone involved.
