Bandar Riyal Ramadan Bazaar Strengthens Unity and Local Economy

KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Bandar Riyal Ramadan Bazaar has become more than just a festive marketplace this year, serving as a platform to strengthen community unity and support local economic growth.

The initiative, organised by the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), was praised by Datuk Hamzah Brahim, State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Stakan, who highlighted its role in providing opportunities for small and medium-sized traders to generate additional income during Ramadan. He noted that such efforts reflect the concern of local authorities in helping families improve their economic standing.

“Thank you to MPKS for the initiative to organise the Ramadan bazaar in Bandar Riyal which provides an opportunity for local residents to find a source of income, especially to cover expenses ahead of Hari Raya,” he said during the bubur lambuk distribution programme at the bazaar on Monday.

As part of the event, Datuk Hamzah personally distributed bubur lambuk to traders and visitors, symbolising togetherness and the spirit of sharing sustenance during the holy month. His gesture reinforced the cultural significance of Ramadan bazaars as spaces for both commerce and community bonding.

He further suggested that bazaars of this nature should not be limited to Ramadan alone, but also expanded to other festivals such as Gawai Dayak. According to him, the introduction of a Gawai Bazaar could enhance harmony among Sarawak’s multi-racial communities, aligning with the state’s vision of unity as a foundation for development.

The Bandar Riyal Ramadan Bazaar offers a wide variety of iftar meals and festive goods, attracting strong participation from traders and enthusiastic support from the public. Organisers emphasised that the bazaar is managed in a safe and conducive environment, ensuring a positive experience for both vendors and visitors.

Beyond its economic impact, the bazaar has been recognised as a catalyst for social development. By fostering friendship and cooperation among residents, it contributes to the overall well-being of the community while celebrating the spirit of Ramadan.

The event reflects MPKS’s broader commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and strengthening community ties, making the Bandar Riyal Ramadan Bazaar a key highlight of Kota Samarahan’s festive season.
