KAPIT – A tree planting programme and environmental awareness talk was held at SK Nanga Janan, Song, Kapit, on 24 February 2026, in conjunction with the school’s Environmental Sustainability Day.
The initiative was jointly organised by SK Nanga Janan, the Kapit Regional Forest Office, and the Parents and Community Association (PIBK).
The programme successfully planted 180 saplings of various species, including belian, kasai, dabai, and prayer trees.
Approximately 80 participants, comprising teachers, students, support staff, and community members, took part in the activity.
The event also featured an environmental awareness talk delivered by Mr Saga Ludan, Head of the Forest Restoration Section of the Kapit Regional Forest Office.
His session highlighted the importance of forest conservation, sustainable practices, and the role of young people in protecting Sarawak’s natural heritage.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Saga Ludan, representing the Kapit Regional Forest Officer, alongside Mr Francis Anak Chuat, Headmaster of SK Nanga Janan.
Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit between educational institutions and government agencies in promoting environmental stewardship.
Teachers and students actively participated in the planting exercise, which aimed to instil values of responsibility and care for the environment.
The involvement of PIBK members further demonstrated the importance of community engagement in supporting school-level sustainability initiatives.
Officials noted that the programme was not only about planting trees but also about fostering long-term awareness of environmental issues.
By engaging students directly, organisers hope to nurture a generation that is environmentally conscious and committed to sustainable living.
The Kapit Regional Forest Office reaffirmed its commitment to supporting similar initiatives across schools in the division.
Such programmes are seen as vital in strengthening environmental education and ensuring that conservation values are embedded in daily life.
The event concluded with a sense of unity and shared responsibility, as participants expressed hope that the trees planted would serve as a lasting legacy for future generations.
