Lan Berambeh Sungkei 2026 Sibu Targets 25,000 Visitors

SIBU – The eighth edition of Lan Berambeh Sungkei 2026 in Sibu Division is set to take place on 7 March at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang (Phase I), with organisers aiming to attract around 25,000 visitors from across Sarawak.

Sibu Division Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman said the event, beginning at 4pm, has become one of the most anticipated Ramadan programmes in the division.

First introduced in 2017, the annual gathering was temporarily halted in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that attendance has steadily grown over the years, with more than 15,000 participants recorded in 2024 and over 20,000 in 2025.

“For this edition, we are targeting 25,000 participants compared to more than 20,000 participants recorded in the seventh edition last year,” he said during a press conference on Thursday.

The programme will be officiated by Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, while Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, who is also the patron and pioneer of the event, is expected to attend.

Abang Mohamad Porkan emphasised that the event not only enlivens the Ramadan celebration but also strengthens unity and cultural harmony.

He added that the gathering has the potential to attract visitors from neighbouring districts, other states, and even countries such as Indonesia and Brunei.

The annual programme is organised by the Sibu Division Islamic Festival Standing Committee, in collaboration with the N.55 Nangka State Legislative Assembly Service Centre and RTM Sarawak.

A variety of side events will accompany the main programme, including the Bedil Competition, the Teter Beduk Competition, the Fashion Competition, the Quran Hours, the Ramadan stalls, a donation handover ceremony for the asnaf, and the Rahmah Sale.

The press conference was also attended by senior representatives from several agencies, including Sibu Resident Office Senior Officer Nursyarmilla Jeruis, Sibu RTM Manager Nur Aida Kemilia Jamie Abdullah, Sibu Division MAKSAK Wanita Chairperson Betty Tuko, Sibu Division Islamic Religious Officer Rafeah Buang, Nangka State Legislative Assembly Service Centre representative Syed Yazid Wan Zaim, Sibu Division Health Office representative Wan Rabaie Wan Mos, and Sibu Islamic Welfare Trust Board (LAKIS) Secretary Jamil Julaihi.

Lan Berambeh Sungkei has become a platform for fostering community spirit, promoting tolerance, and showcasing Sarawak’s cultural diversity.

With its growing popularity, the 2026 edition is expected to further strengthen Sibu’s role as a hub for festive gatherings and cultural exchange during Ramadan.
