Sarawak Premier Joins Community for Ramadan Prayers and Iftar

KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, spent time with the local community on Wednesday evening, joining them for iftar and prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Premier’s arrival was greeted by dignitaries, community leaders, and residents, reflecting the strong ties between Sarawak’s leadership and its people. The programme began with the recitation of verses from the Quran, setting a spiritual tone as attendees awaited the call to break their fast.

As the Maghrib prayer was announced, the Premier joined the congregation in breaking the fast, followed by performing the prayer together. The atmosphere was described as warm and welcoming, highlighting the sense of unity and fellowship shared between the state leadership and the community.

The evening continued with the Isyak prayer and Tarawih Sunat prayers, performed in congregation. The Premier’s participation was seen as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to engaging directly with the people, particularly during Ramadan, a month that emphasises reflection, compassion, and togetherness.

Community members expressed appreciation for the Premier’s presence, noting that his willingness to spend time with them reinforced the bond between leaders and citizens. Many attendees viewed the occasion as a meaningful opportunity to strengthen relationships and foster mutual respect.

Such events are regarded as vital in promoting harmony and solidarity across Sarawak. They provide a platform for leaders to connect with residents on a personal level, while also reinforcing the values of unity and inclusivity that underpin the state’s vision for a prosperous society.

The Premier’s engagement during Ramadan is consistent with Sarawak’s broader aspiration to build a community that is not only economically strong but also socially cohesive. By participating in religious and cultural gatherings, the state leadership continues to demonstrate its dedication to nurturing a balanced and harmonious environment for all.

Observers noted that the Premier’s presence at the event was symbolic of the government’s ongoing efforts to remain close to the people, ensuring that policies and initiatives are grounded in community values. The evening’s programme, combining spiritual observance with fellowship, served as a reminder of the importance of shared experiences in strengthening Sarawak’s social fabric.
