BLM Motorcycle Licence Programme Boosts Rural Mobility in Selangau

SELANGAU – A coordination meeting was held on 26 February 2026 to discuss the implementation of the Class B2 Motorcycle Driving Licence Assistance (BLM) Programme, aimed at improving mobility access for rural communities in Selangau.

The meeting was chaired by YBrs Tuan Yalin anak Asan, Selangau District Officer, and brought together representatives from various agencies and community leaders.

Among those present was Tuan Yusniman bin Mohammad, Head of the Driver Licensing Division at JPJ Sarawak, who provided a detailed briefing on the programme’s procedures and compliance with JPJ Malaysia’s guidelines.

The initiative, jointly organised by the Parliament of P.214 Selangau and DUN N.59 Tamin, is designed to assist rural residents, particularly youth and low-income groups, in obtaining legal motorcycle licences.

By doing so, the programme seeks to enhance road safety, reduce the risks associated with unlicensed riding, and open up new economic opportunities for participants.

Representatives from the Service Centre, Pemanca, Penghulu, and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) also attended the session, reflecting the collaborative nature of the programme.

The driving institute tasked with supporting the initiative is Ngu Chung Beng & Sons Driving Institute Sdn. Bhd., which will play a key role in ensuring training and licensing are carried out effectively.

The BLM Class B2 programme is particularly significant for rural communities where motorcycles are often the primary mode of transport.

Access to a valid licence not only improves safety but also enables individuals to travel more freely for work, education, and community activities.

Officials highlighted that the programme aligns with broader efforts to empower rural populations by providing them with practical tools to improve their livelihoods.

With better mobility, residents can access markets, healthcare, and educational institutions more easily, contributing to long-term social and economic development.

The meeting underscored the importance of integrity and compliance in the licensing process, ensuring that all procedures adhere to national standards.

By maintaining strict governance, JPJ Sarawak aims to build public trust and deliver services that meet the needs of the people.

As the programme moves forward, stakeholders expressed optimism that it will not only strengthen road safety but also foster greater inclusivity by enabling more residents to participate in the formal economy.

The initiative represents a step towards bridging mobility gaps in rural Sarawak, reinforcing the state’s commitment to community development.
