SARIKEI – Sarawakians living in the Middle East have been urged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines issued by Malaysian embassies. The call was made by Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Sarawak’s Minister of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare, during the Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri 2026 programme in Sarikei on Monday.
Fatimah emphasised that the embassy closely monitors developments and prioritises the safety of Malaysians abroad. She explained that embassies have been providing regular updates to ensure citizens remain informed and safe.
“So far, the embassy has been providing information to ensure that Malaysians remain safe and their place of residence is also registered with the embassy. This is so that the embassy knows where they are and if there is an unexpected incident, the appropriate action can be taken immediately,” she said.
She added that measures are being taken to relocate Malaysians to safer areas if necessary, while ensuring that repatriation efforts can be carried out successfully. Fatimah expressed hope that Malaysians in countries experiencing turmoil would remain safe, stressing the importance of community solidarity and preparedness.
The remarks were made during the Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri ceremony, where 420 recipients received festive aid packages. The initiative aims to ease the burden of families ahead of Aidilfitri, reinforcing Sarawak’s welfare agenda.
The event was attended by Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land and Landscape; Datu Michael Ronnie Langgong, Resident of Sarikei; and Semawi Mohamad, Director of JKM Sarawak. Their presence highlighted the government’s collective effort to support communities during the festive season.
The Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri programme continues to serve as a reminder of the importance of welfare initiatives in promoting inclusivity and care, while ensuring that Malaysians abroad remain connected to their homeland through embassy support.
