MIRI – A training session on the Nomination of Prescribed Forest Activities (PFA) and assessment applications via the Forest Licence Portal was successfully held on 5 March 2026 at Dynasty Hotel, Miri. The programme was organised to improve participants’ understanding of forestry management procedures and the use of digital systems.
The event was officiated by Tuan Semilan anak Ripot, Deputy Director of Sarawak Forests. In his opening speech, he stressed the importance of equipping stakeholders with digital skills to ensure forest activities are managed in a systematic and sustainable way.
The training covered two main areas: the nomination process for Prescribed Forest Activities (PFA) and the procedures for submitting assessment applications through the Forest Licence Portal. These components are essential for ensuring compliance with forestry regulations and supporting transparent management practices.
Also present were Ms Annie Ting, Training Manager of the Sarawak Timber Association (STAT); representatives from the Miri Regional Forest Office; and participants representing various stakeholders in the forestry industry. Their attendance reflected the collaborative nature of the programme, bringing together government agencies, industry players, and local stakeholders.
Organisers said the training was designed to provide hands-on experience, helping participants improve their ability to use digital platforms. By becoming familiar with the Forest Licence Portal, stakeholders can improve workflow efficiency, reduce administrative delays, and increase accountability in forestry operations.
The initiative reflects Sarawak’s wider commitment to sustainable forest management. With growing global focus on environmental protection, programmes like this are important in balancing economic growth with environmental conservation. The adoption of digital systems is expected to improve monitoring and reporting, ensuring forestry activities follow best practices.
Participants expressed appreciation for the training, saying it provided useful knowledge about regulatory requirements and technology applications. Many noted that the session would help them adapt to changing industry standards and contribute to better forest governance.
The Sarawak Forest Department continues to conduct training programmes across the state to build stakeholder capacity and strengthen sustainable practices. By integrating digital tools into forest management, the department aims to set higher standards for efficiency and accountability in the sector.
