JKR Sarawak Hosts Iftar and Ramadan Box Distribution Ceremony

KUCHING – The Director of the Public Works Department Malaysia (JKR) Sarawak branch, Cassidy Morris, officiated the Ramadan Box Presentation and Iftar Breaking Ceremony organised by the JKR Islamic Welfare Association Sarawak (PKIJ) Central, PKIJ Headquarters and PKIJ Kuching Division.

The event took place at the JKR Hall in Kuching and involved the distribution of Ramadan Boxes to 52 employees from JKR Headquarters and JKR Kuching Division. Contributions were also extended to the Kuching Baiturrahmah Welfare Organisation as part of the department’s outreach during Ramadan.

The Ramadan Boxes, prepared through donations from Muslim staff within the Public Works Department Malaysia Sarawak, contained essential food items to assist recipients in preparing for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Organisers described the initiative as part of PKIJ’s annual welfare programmes aimed at encouraging charity and social awareness during the fasting month.

Beyond staff members and welfare organisations, the donations will also reach several non-governmental organisations across Kuching, widening the impact of the programme within the local community.

The ceremony also included religious activities such as Terawih prayers and a tazkirah session, which highlighted the spiritual aspect of the gathering while strengthening bonds among staff.

In his remarks, Cassidy Morris thanked members of the JKR Islamic Welfare Association Sarawak for their efforts in organising the programme. He said initiatives like this help support employees while nurturing a spirit of compassion and unity within the department.

Officials added that the sharing of bubur lambuk, a traditional dish commonly prepared during Ramadan, further strengthened the sense of community among those present.

The programme highlighted the role of welfare initiatives in promoting solidarity and wellbeing among staff while extending assistance to the wider community. The JKR Islamic Welfare Association Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to continue similar programmes so the spirit of giving, reflection and unity remains strong throughout Ramadan.
