KUCHING – The 2026 International Women’s Day celebration will take place on 10 March at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), with organisers confirming the event will proceed despite falling during the month of Ramadan.
Nancy Shukri, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, said the celebration will highlight the contributions of women to national development while recognising their roles across different sectors.
The programme involves cooperation with several strategic partners, including government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and corporate groups.
She said the event will include recognition for women icons, appreciation for NGOs working to support women’s welfare, and acknowledgement of companies that actively promote women’s empowerment.
Nancy also shared that several new initiatives aimed at supporting women have been prepared. These initiatives focus on expanding opportunities for women to gain knowledge and access various forms of assistance. Further details will be announced by Anwar Ibrahim during the official launch ceremony.
The celebration will feature various activities such as award presentations, appreciation sessions, and community engagement programmes. Organisers said the event aims to celebrate women’s achievements while encouraging greater participation in national development.
Nancy made the announcement after officiating the PEKEMA Sarawak Raya Shopping with Asnaf Children Programme at a shopping mall in Kuching on Sunday.
She noted that International Women’s Day continues to highlight the importance of inclusivity, equality, and empowerment, values that contribute to Malaysia’s social and economic progress.
With the programme taking place during Ramadan, organisers said the celebration will be conducted in a respectful manner while maintaining its purpose of honouring women’s contributions.
