JULAU – Residents of the Rengayan longhouse in Nanga Ruyak, Julau, were shocked on Tuesday morning when they found two snakes writhing on the roof rafters.
The incident took place on March 10, 2026, when the APM Julau Alpha Squad responded to a call from residents about the presence of reptiles.
The snakes, both of which were the Cat’s Fang species, were around 2 metres and 1.5 metres long, respectively.
A team was then deployed on site to find what had happened. The squad members inspected the premise cautiously, capturing both snakes successfully without any hiccup. The reptiles were set free again later, keeping the longhouse occupants safe and wildlife intact.
This operation marked APM Julau’s preparedness in addressing wildlife-related emergency cases. In rural areas with more frequent snake encounters, their expertise in handling such cases has been important to keep the public safe.
The authorities have urged residents to remain alert and report any sightings of snakes or other hazardous animals to relevant agencies.
Rural settlements and longhouses, which are, most times, located in forested areas, are susceptible to such incidents; hence, community awareness is key, and there is a need for immediate reporting.
The incident shows the impact of collaboration by the public and emergency services. Demonstrating quick action, the inhabitants of RM Rengayan longhouse knew how to respond appropriately and, in doing so, they prevented possible danger and ensured the snakes were safely removed from their vicinity.
