MIRI – The Road Transport Department Miri Branch carried out a firm enforcement operation under Ops Patuh around Miri town on Tuesday, resulting in the seizure of three vehicles and the inspection of hundreds more.
The operation was conducted by the department’s Operations Unit through patrol and monitoring activities in key areas. The Director of JPJ Sarawak, Tuan Norizan bin Jili, was present on the ground to personally observe the implementation of the operation. His presence underscored the department’s commitment to ensure that enforcement actions are carried out strictly, with integrity and professionalism.
Throughout the operation, enforcement officers inspected a total of 341 vehicles of various types. The large-scale inspection aimed to ensure road users comply with traffic laws and regulations, particularly those involving driving licences, vehicle documentation and general road safety requirements.
According to the department, several offences were detected during the checks. Among the common offences identified were driving without a valid licence, failure to wear a seat belt, and using a mobile phone while driving. Officers also discovered technical offences involving vehicle conditions that did not meet regulatory standards. Non-compliance notices were issued to offenders in accordance with the law.
In addition to issuing notices, enforcement officers seized three vehicles for more serious violations. The vehicles involved were a Chrysler 300, a Perodua Axia and a Perodua Bezza. All three were found to have expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and did not possess valid insurance coverage. These offences are considered serious as they pose risks not only to the drivers but also to other road users in the event of an accident.
JPJ Sarawak reiterated that it will continue to intensify enforcement operations across the state. The department stressed that it will not compromise with any individual or party found violating road laws. Regular operations such as Ops Patuh are part of ongoing efforts to improve compliance and reduce road accidents.
Members of the public are reminded to ensure that their driving licences, road tax and insurance coverage are valid at all times. Compliance with road regulations is not only a legal obligation but also a shared responsibility to safeguard the safety and well-being of all road users.
As enforcement activities continue, JPJ Sarawak has called on motorists to adopt responsible driving habits and respect the law to create safer roads for everyone.
