His Royal Highness the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, today fulfilled his religious obligation by paying RM10 million in zakat for this year, reaffirming his commitment to Islamic principles and the welfare of the people.
The zakat payment was presented in a formal ceremony held at Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru on March 11. His Majesty personally handed over the cheque to Mohd Radzi Mohd Amin, Chief Executive Officer of the Johor State Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ). The presentation was witnessed by Johor Mufti Dato’ Yahya Ahmad and Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) Director Nasri Md Ali.
Zakat, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a compulsory charitable contribution for eligible Muslims. It plays a vital role in supporting the less fortunate, including the poor, the needy, and other qualified recipients. The contribution made by His Majesty reflects a strong sense of responsibility and leadership in upholding Islamic values.
Sultan Ibrahim has consistently emphasised the importance of unity, compassion and social responsibility. His latest zakat contribution demonstrates not only personal devotion but also encouragement for others to fulfil their religious duties.
The funds will be managed by Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor to assist eligible recipients across Johor. MAINJ is responsible for collecting and distributing zakat in accordance with Islamic guidelines to ensure transparency and proper management.
The ceremony was also attended by representatives from Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri Johor, which oversees Islamic affairs in the state. The presence of key religious officials highlighted the significance of the occasion.
Held at Istana Pasir Pelangi, the event reflected the close cooperation between the palace and state religious authorities in strengthening Islamic administration and welfare efforts.
His Majesty’s contribution sends a clear message about the importance of fulfilling religious obligations and supporting community welfare. At a time when many families are facing economic challenges, zakat contributions play a crucial role in easing burdens and improving livelihoods.
In conclusion, the RM10 million zakat payment by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong stands as a meaningful example of leadership through action. It reinforces the values of generosity, accountability and care for the less fortunate, which remain central to Malaysian society.
