LUNDU – Opar State Assemblyman Billy Sujang carried out a site inspection on Friday to assess the progress of two development projects under the Greater Kuching Development Coordination Agency (GKCDA) in the Opar constituency.
The visit covered two key initiatives: the Erosion Barrier Construction Project in Kampung Stum Muda, valued at RM200,000, and the Kampung Raso 2 Community Hall Renovation Project, which has been allocated RM250,000.
In Kampung Stum Muda, the erosion barrier is being built to address soil erosion issues affecting the area surrounding a local church. The structure is expected to provide long-term protection against erosion, safeguarding both the community and nearby facilities. Authorities have also proposed converting the barrier into a concrete drainage system, which would be more cost-effective and sustainable in the long run.
Meanwhile, the renovation of the Kampung Raso 2 Community Hall aims to enhance facilities for residents. Once completed, the hall will serve as a hub for community activities, including meetings, social gatherings, and local programmes. The upgrade is intended to ensure that residents have access to a well-equipped space for collective use.
Speaking during the site visit, Billy Sujang emphasised the importance of monitoring development projects closely to ensure they meet the actual needs of the community. He noted that such inspections help guarantee that projects are implemented smoothly and deliver tangible benefits to residents.
He further highlighted that rural infrastructure remains a priority, stressing that improvements in facilities are essential for the well-being and comfort of people living in the Opar constituency. According to him, these efforts align with Sarawak’s broader vision of inclusive and sustainable development, ensuring that rural communities are not left behind.
Community leaders in Lundu have welcomed the initiatives, pointing out that infrastructure projects such as erosion control and hall renovations not only improve safety and convenience but also strengthen social cohesion. The projects are seen as part of ongoing government efforts to uplift rural areas and provide residents with better living conditions.
As work continues, the projects are expected to contribute significantly to the district’s development, reflecting Sarawak’s commitment to balancing urban progress with rural advancement.
