SPAOH – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Spaoh District responded swiftly to a report of poisonous insects discovered inside an air conditioner hose at a house in Kampung Hilir, Spaoh, on Saturday.
The incident was reported by a resident, Mr Zamirul, who contacted the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) after noticing the insects and becoming concerned about the possible danger. He requested assistance from APM to safely remove the nest.
In response, APM Spaoh deployed four members of the Alpha Squad to the location. Equipped with protective gear and the necessary equipment, the team carried out an initial inspection upon arrival.
During the inspection, the squad confirmed that poisonous insects had built a nest inside the air conditioner hose. To ensure safety throughout the operation, the team wore full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), commonly known as bee suits, before proceeding.
Using the Ridsect spray method, the APM personnel successfully destroyed the nest. The operation was completed smoothly, and the insects were eliminated without any injuries reported.
APM Spaoh emphasised the importance of proper protective clothing and safe handling procedures when dealing with potentially dangerous insects. These precautions are essential to protect both residents and the responding personnel.
Incidents involving insect infestations are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in rural areas where homes are often surrounded by vegetation. APM frequently assists residents in handling such situations to ensure the safety of the community.
The agency also urged the public to stay alert and report any sightings of poisonous insects or nests near their homes. Early action, they noted, can help prevent accidents and reduce potential risks to families.
This incident highlights APM’s role not only in emergency response but also in safeguarding public safety. Their prompt action helped reassure the community and prevented potential harm from the infestation.
