In Kuching, the improvement project at Sarawak Stadium continues to move forward at a strong pace, with construction progress already ahead of schedule.
On 16 March 2026, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah visited the stadium site to review the latest developments. He holds the portfolios of Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, and Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development.
The minister arrived with Hii Chang Kee as part of ongoing monitoring work linked to preparations for the 2027 Southeast Asian Games. The stadium will serve as the main venue for the regional sporting event.
Project officials presented a progress briefing during the visit. Construction work has surpassed initial targets, reflecting steady advancement across the site.
The briefing also introduced several design upgrades. Plans include a new facade lighting system designed to give the stadium a stronger visual identity at night. Officials also proposed a refreshed colour scheme and a redesigned seating arrangement to improve comfort and create a better atmosphere for spectators.
Following the presentation, the delegation toured the stadium grounds to observe work in progress. The inspection focused on construction quality, safety compliance, and the overall readiness of facilities to meet international sporting standards.
