PADAWAN – The Padawan Municipal Council organised the Microsoft Office Mastery: Digital Productivity Training for Young Generation programme last Saturday as part of its Child Friendly Cities Initiative.
The training drew 62 participants, including youth, teenagers, and members of the Padawan Child Council. The session was conducted by Diana Maling, who guided participants through practical lessons on using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Organised by the MPP Library Unit, the programme falls under Theme 2, “Every Child Learns,” within the council’s CFCI Plan of Action. The initiative aims to strengthen digital literacy and prepare young people for future education and career opportunities.
Participants worked through hands-on exercises during the training. They learned how to prepare documents, organise data in spreadsheets, and build clear presentations. The activities focused on building confidence with digital tools used in school and the workplace.
Officials from the Padawan Municipal Council said the programme reflects the council’s focus on empowering young people with practical knowledge. Digital literacy plays an important role in personal growth and job readiness in today’s technology-driven environment.
The initiative also supports Sarawak’s wider push to encourage education and skills development among the younger generation. By integrating technology into learning programmes, the council aims to help students apply digital knowledge in real-life situations.
Participants responded positively to the session, noting that the training helped improve their confidence in using Microsoft Office tools. Organisers said similar programmes will continue under the Child Friendly Cities Initiative, reinforcing Padawan’s commitment to creating a learning-focused environment for children and youth.
The success of the training highlights how local councils play an important role in nurturing digital skills and supporting the development of the next generation.
