Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament Datuk Rubiah Wang officiated the event.

She explained that the initiative was not only about distributing aid but also about strengthening the values of love, gratitude and togetherness that underpin society.

“Ramadan teaches us to understand the meaning of gratitude and feel the hardships of others. When Syawal arrives, we are called upon to share sustenance so that no group is left out from enjoying the joy of Hari Raya,” she said.

Rubiah stressed that although the assistance may not be large in monetary terms, it carries significant meaning by reducing the burden of recipients and reinforcing ties between the community and its leaders.

She also reminded grassroots leadership, including Community and Tribal Heads (KMKK), penghulu and village committees, to uphold integrity and fairness in carrying out their responsibilities.

“Community leaders need to be fair regardless of background. Assistance must be distributed to those who are truly deserving, not based on personal interests or family relationships,” she emphasised.

Rubiah further noted that Ramadan should serve as a platform to instil honesty and trust, aligning with religious values that highlight responsibility in managing entrusted duties.

Addressing the current economic climate, she encouraged the community to practise thrift and avoid waste, especially given global uncertainties.

While the government continues to provide support through subsidies and welfare initiatives, she said individuals must also play their part by spending wisely.

The event was attended by Samarahan Assistant District Officer Hayati Sahari and Temenggong of the Samarahan Malay Community Division Chek Bujang, alongside community leaders and residents.
