PDRM, JPJ Launch Op Selamat 26 Road Safety Drive in Betong

PDRM, JPJ Launch Op Selamat 26 Road Safety Drive in Betong

BETONG, March 19, 2026 – The Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) Betong District, in collaboration with the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) Betong, has intensified road safety efforts in conjunction with Op Selamat 26 ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

The Road Safety Advocacy and Campaign Programme was officially launched at KM 368.2 of the Pan Borneo Highway, in front of Petronas Layar Betong, from 10.00am to 11.30am today. The initiative forms part of nationwide efforts to promote safer driving habits during the festive season, when traffic volume is expected to increase significantly as people travel to their hometowns.

The programme involved officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) as well as the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division (BPJKK) of the Betong District Police Headquarters. They were joined by five enforcement officers from JPJ Betong. The joint operation reflects close cooperation between enforcement agencies in ensuring public safety on the roads.

Throughout the campaign, officers distributed road safety pamphlets to motorists and provided direct advice to road users. Drivers were reminded to obey traffic laws, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, avoid speeding, and remain alert at all times. The authorities stressed that responsible driving is not only a legal obligation but also a moral duty to protect lives.

The initiative is a proactive measure aimed at reducing road accidents and fatalities during Op Selamat 26, particularly in the lead-up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026. Festive seasons in Malaysia have traditionally seen a rise in road traffic accidents due to heavy traffic, long-distance travel, and driver fatigue. By engaging directly with the public, PDRM and JPJ hope to reinforce awareness and encourage disciplined driving habits.

According to the organisers, the programme received a positive response from members of the public and proceeded smoothly without any untoward incidents. Motorists were cooperative and expressed appreciation for the reminders and safety materials provided.

PDRM continues to advise all road users to practise patience, comply with traffic regulations, and prioritise safety at all times, especially during the festive season. With collective responsibility and strict adherence to the law, the authorities believe that road accidents can be minimised and families can celebrate Hari Raya in peace and safety.
