On March 24, officers from the Miri branch carried out patrols across key routes in Miri. The focus stayed on busy areas often used by holiday travellers, where traffic tends to surge ahead of Hari Raya.

During the operation, 112 vehicles were inspected. Several offences came up, including driving without a valid licence, expired motor vehicle licences (LKM), and vehicles without insurance.

Officers also flagged cases involving unsafe loads and other technical issues tied to vehicle safety standards.

Enforcement action followed for those who broke the rules. JPJ made it clear that the goal goes beyond issuing fines.

The priority lies in reducing accidents and protecting lives, especially during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri runs nationwide each year, timed with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, when millions travel to reunite with family.

The effort often involves close coordination with agencies like the Royal Malaysia Police and the Land Public Transport Agency to strengthen enforcement on the ground.

In Sarawak, authorities continue to stress the importance of following road laws, especially during festive seasons when accident risks tend to rise.

Drivers are also reminded to check that their vehicles are in good condition before setting out on long trips.

JPJ Sarawak has called on all motorists to stay responsible behind the wheel. Safe driving and proper vehicle upkeep, they said, play a key role in preventing accidents.

With travel expected to peak in the coming days, enforcement activities will continue across the state, keeping pressure on offenders while working to ensure safer journeys for everyone on the road.
