APM Julau Successfully Handles Wasp Nest Incident

JULAU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully neutralised a wasp nest discovered at the Julau market complex on Monday evening, following swift action by local emergency teams.

The Julau District Control and Operations Centre (PKOD) received a public report at 7.35pm regarding the presence of a wasp nest attached to the astro plate on the first floor of the market shop. The sighting raised concerns among traders and visitors, prompting immediate intervention.

APM personnel deployed a specialised redset spray technique to eliminate the nest. The operation was carried out efficiently, and the affected area was thoroughly cleaned to prevent future infestations. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.

The Civil Defence Force emphasised the importance of public vigilance in reporting such hazards. Wasps can pose risks to health and safety, particularly in crowded areas such as markets. Quick reporting enables authorities to act before the situation escalates.

Residents are reminded that emergencies should be directed to the national 999 hotline or the APM Julau hotline, which operates around the clock at 011-4037 5527. The agency reiterated its commitment to rapid response, guided by its motto: “Ready to be quick and have integrity.”

The Julau operation reflects broader efforts by APM Sarawak, under the Prime Minister’s Department, to safeguard communities from environmental and structural hazards. Similar interventions have been carried out across Sarawak in recent months, including the removal of bee and wasp nests from residential and commercial areas.

Local authorities continue to encourage cooperation between the public and emergency services. By reporting potential dangers early, communities can help reduce risks and ensure swift resolution.

The incident at Julau market highlights the effectiveness of coordinated emergency response and the importance of maintaining safety in public spaces. With the market serving as a hub for daily trade and social activity, the removal of the nest has reassured both stallholders and visitors.

APM Sarawak has pledged to remain vigilant and prepared for future emergencies, reinforcing its role as a frontline agency in protecting lives and property across the state.
