MUKAH – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Mukah responded swiftly to an emergency call on 26 March 2026 after a cobra was discovered inside a local store.
The reptile, identified as a black cobra measuring approximately 0.5 metres in length, was safely captured by the team on duty. Using the pincer technique, officers managed to secure the snake without incident. The situation was quickly brought under control, and no injuries or property damage were reported.
According to APM Mukah, the operation was carried out efficiently, ensuring the safety of both the public and the personnel involved. The team emphasised that their rapid response reflects their commitment to protecting the community from potential hazards.
The Civil Defence Force expressed gratitude to members of the public for promptly reporting the case. Early notification, they noted, is crucial in preventing accidents and ensuring that dangerous situations are managed effectively.
APM Mukah continues to remind residents of the importance of contacting their emergency hotline whenever unexpected incidents occur. Their motto, “APM Mukah, Nang Steady” and “Ada Musibah, Call APM”, reinforces their readiness to respond to emergencies at any time.
The organisation also highlighted that snake encounters are not uncommon in Sarawak, particularly in areas where human activity overlaps with natural habitats. Public awareness and cooperation remain vital in ensuring such cases are handled safely.
Residents in Mukah and surrounding areas are encouraged to remain vigilant and to avoid attempting to capture snakes themselves. Instead, they should immediately contact APM Mukah for professional assistance.
For emergencies, the public can reach APM Mukah at 084-872814, a hotline that operates 24 hours a day.
