BINTULU – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak, through its Bintulu Branch, has stepped up enforcement efforts during the festive season with Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026.
The operation was conducted on Sunday, 29 March, with patrols and monitoring carried out across Bintulu town.
During the exercise, JPJ officers inspected 85 vehicles of different categories. Several violations were detected, including driving without a valid licence, expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), lack of insurance coverage, and other technical offences relating to vehicle safety.
Immediate action was taken against offenders in line with existing laws. JPJ highlighted that strict enforcement is essential to ensure compliance and to protect road users, particularly during the busy Hari Raya travel period when traffic volumes are significantly higher.
Ops HRA is part of JPJ’s broader initiative to reduce accidents and fatalities during festive seasons. By focusing on common offences such as expired documents and unsafe vehicles, JPJ aims to raise awareness among motorists and encourage responsible driving behaviour.
The Bintulu Branch plays a key role in monitoring traffic within the division, ensuring that vehicles on the road meet safety standards.
JPJ reminded drivers to check their licences, insurance, and vehicle condition before embarking on long journeys, stressing that compliance is a shared responsibility in reducing risks.
JPJ Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement across the state, pledging to maintain consistent patrols and inspections to safeguard travellers.
The department also urged the public to cooperate with enforcement officers and to prioritise safety during festive celebrations.
The operation reflects JPJ’s ongoing mission to strengthen road safety culture in Sarawak, ensuring that festive journeys are safer and more secure for all road users.
