The high-level oversight comes as technical teams work against the clock to rectify a significant fault in the local water distribution network.

The disruption was triggered by a leak in a 600mm Mild Steel Cement Lined (MSCL) pipe located near the busy intersection of Jalan Tong Sang and Jalan Wong King Huo.

Maintenance work officially commenced at 2:00 pm on 31 March 2026, with engineers initially projecting a twelve-hour window for completion.

Residents and business owners in the affected areas have been advised that the estimated time for the restoration of full water pressure is 2:00 am on 1 April 2026.

However, recovery times may vary depending on the location and elevation of individual properties relative to the main supply line.

During his visit to the repair site, the AgCEO emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards during the restoration process.

He noted that the utility provider’s dedicated team remains stationed on the ground, working without pause to ensure that the structural integrity of the pipeline is fully restored before the system is recharged.

The presence of senior leadership at the repair site highlights the urgency with which the utility provider is treating the interruption.

Such large-scale pipe repairs often present technical challenges, particularly when dealing with high-capacity mains at major traffic junctions.

“Our team remains on the ground, working tirelessly to ensure everything is restored to the highest standards,” a representative for the utility firm stated.

The company expressed its gratitude for the public’s understanding as they navigate these necessary maintenance works.

Sarawak Water has requested that consumers in the Central Region exercise patience while the final phases of the engineering work are completed.

Once the repairs are finalised, the water supply will be reinstated in stages to prevent the risk of further bursts due to sudden pressure changes.

Further updates will be released should the timeline for restoration require adjustment. Residents are encouraged to store sufficient water for essential use and to report any lingering issues once the official repair window has concluded.
