KUANTAN – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for immediate action to accelerate development projects in Kuantan, emphasising the need to mitigate the economic pressures facing Malaysia amid ongoing global instability.
During the Kuantan District Development Meeting, his sixth such visit to a district in recent weeks, Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the government’s commitment to safeguarding public welfare against the fallout from the conflict in the Gulf region and West Asia.
He underscored that national defence and security measures have been strengthened to protect both the government and its citizens from the broader impacts of geopolitical tensions.
The Prime Minister assured that the federal government, in collaboration with the Pahang State Government, will prioritise the swift implementation of small-scale projects approved under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).
These initiatives, he noted, are designed to deliver tangible benefits to local communities without unnecessary delays.
Addressing concerns over land issues that could hinder progress, Anwar Ibrahim pledged federal support to resolve such challenges promptly, ensuring that approved allocations are utilised effectively.
A key focus of the meeting was the rising cost of living, a pressing issue exacerbated by global economic disruptions.
The government, he stated, is adopting both short-term relief measures and long-term strategies to shield citizens from financial strain.
This includes continuous monitoring of economic indicators to minimise the impact on Malaysia’s growth trajectory.
Anwar Ibrahim also reviewed the status of federal and state-led projects in Kuantan, including efforts to address the escalating costs of construction materials for schools and flood mitigation infrastructure.
The discussion extended to broader social welfare initiatives, such as poverty alleviation, crime reduction, and the MADANI Adoption Village and School programmes.
He stressed the importance of supporting small traders and entrepreneurs, advocating for the expansion and repair of market stalls to boost local economic activity.
In line with recent Cabinet decisions, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Education to expedite the provision of additional classrooms for six- and seven-year-old students ahead of the 2027 school session. This move aims to accommodate the growing demand for educational facilities in Kuantan and across the country.
Concluding his address, Anwar Ibrahim urged all Malaysians to remain united in prayer and effort, calling for collective resilience in overcoming the economic challenges posed by both domestic and international factors.
His remarks reflected a broader commitment to balancing immediate relief with sustainable development, ensuring that the benefits of national progress reach every segment of society.
