SARATOK – A four-foot-long snake discovered under a table in a house at Lubuk Kepayang Awik, Saratok, was successfully captured by the Civil Defence Force (APM).
The incident was reported on 5 April 2026, when residents contacted the Saratok District APM after spotting the reptile inside their home. Responding quickly, three members of the Aspa Squad 03 were dispatched to the location.
The team identified the snake as a Buffalo Rib Snake, a species often found in rural and semi-urban areas. Using the pinning technique, the officers managed to secure the reptile safely without causing harm to themselves or the household.
The operation was completed smoothly, and the situation was declared safe following the capture. No injuries were reported among the residents or the APM personnel involved.
Authorities highlighted the importance of community vigilance in reporting wildlife sightings, particularly when snakes are found inside residential areas. While many species are non-aggressive, their presence can pose risks to families, especially children and pets.
The APM stressed that swift reporting allows emergency teams to respond effectively and prevent accidents. Residents are encouraged to contact the district office whenever they encounter potentially dangerous wildlife near their homes.
This latest case demonstrates the ongoing role of APM in handling non-criminal emergencies, ranging from pest control to disaster response.
The successful removal of the snake has reassured the affected household and reinforced the importance of cooperation between communities and local authorities.
Wildlife encounters in Sarawak are not uncommon, given the state’s rich biodiversity and proximity of villages to forested areas. The APM continues to emphasise preparedness and rapid deployment to safeguard public safety.
