KUCHING – A major celebration of music and creativity is set to take place in Sarawak this June, as the Lakar Festival 2026 brings together performers, artists, and the community for a one-day event at Tropic City, Tabuan Dayak.
Scheduled for 27 June 2026, the festival will run from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, offering a vibrant mix of live performances, cultural showcases, and creative activities.
Organised by Persatuan Lakar Seni Kreatif Kuching, the event is supported by the Kementerian Komunikasi Malaysia and MyCreative Ventures, both of which aim to strengthen Malaysia’s creative industries and provide platforms for local talent.
The festival’s headline acts include Masterpiece, Melissa Francis, Mawat, Ramles Walter, Baby Dream Machine, and Yaya Shimara.
These performers represent a blend of established names and emerging voices in Sarawak’s music scene, reflecting the festival’s mission to highlight both tradition and innovation.
Beyond the stage, the festival will feature food and beverage vendors, creative booths, merchandise stalls, and family-friendly attractions.
Organisers have emphasised that the event is designed to be inclusive, welcoming audiences of all ages to enjoy the atmosphere.
Community activities and art showcases will also be part of the programme, ensuring the festival is more than just a music event.
Tickets are expected to go on sale in April 2026, with details to be announced through the organiser’s official social media channels.
Early interest is anticipated, given the growing popularity of cultural festivals in Sarawak, which have become important platforms for promoting local identity and creative industries.
The Persatuan Lakar Seni Kreatif Kuching has long been committed to supporting independent musicians and artists.
By hosting the Lakar Festival, the association aims to provide opportunities for performers to reach wider audiences while encouraging public engagement with Sarawak’s creative culture.
According to organisers, the festival is not only about entertainment but also about fostering community spirit.
“We want to create a space where people can celebrate music, art, and culture together,” they stated, highlighting the importance of collaboration between artists, vendors, and the public.
The support from Kementerian Komunikasi Malaysia and MyCreative Ventures underscores the government’s recognition of the role of creative industries in national development.
These partnerships are expected to enhance the festival’s reach and sustainability, ensuring that local talent continues to thrive.
With its diverse line-up and community-focused activities, Lakar Festival 2026 is shaping up to be a highlight of Sarawak’s cultural calendar.
As anticipation builds, Kuching residents and visitors alike can look forward to a day of music, art, and celebration in the heart of Tabuan Dayak.
