KUCHING – The wedding reception of Lilian Binjan Nanta Linggi and Jared Jimbau Chabu drew significant attention in Kuching on 8 April, as prominent leaders and dignitaries gathered to celebrate the union.
The event was hosted at the Grand Ballroom of the Imperial Hotel, where traditions and cultural performances highlighted Sarawak’s rich heritage.
The evening was graced by the presence of Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi.
Their arrival was warmly received by the bride’s parents, YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Malaysia’s Minister of Works, and his wife Dato Angelina Celestine Ujang. The groom’s mother, Datu Dr Lulie Melling, also welcomed the distinguished guests alongside family members.
Among the attendees were Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, accompanied by his daughter Dayang Nurjihan. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof and his wife Datin Amar Ruziah Mohd Tahir were also present, alongside Sarawak’s deputy premiers, ministers, deputy ministers, and their spouses. The bride’s grandfather, Tan Sri Leonard Linggi Tun Jugah, added a familial touch to the gathering.
The ceremony incorporated cultural elements, beginning with the couple’s grand entrance, followed by a video presentation of their engagement and wedding journey.
A symbolic moment was marked when the bride’s grandmother draped the traditional Pua Kumbu cloth, a gesture deeply rooted in Iban culture. Guests were also treated to a performance by the Sarawak Cultural Foundation, showcasing the state’s artistic traditions.
A speech of appreciation was delivered by YB Tuan Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Assemblyman for Palagus and uncle of the bride. He expressed gratitude for the attendance of the governor and his wife, noting that their presence added immense significance to the occasion.
The groom’s mother, Datu Dr Lulie Melling, also conveyed heartfelt thanks, emphasising the importance of family unity and the blessings shared during the celebration.
Similarly, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Dato Angelina Celestine Ujang expressed their appreciation for the support and goodwill extended by the distinguished guests.
The Governor and Toh Puan Fauziah offered their congratulations to both families, wishing the newlyweds enduring happiness and prosperity. They prayed that the couple’s marriage would be blessed with harmony, abundance, and lasting joy.
The reception, attended by leaders from both state and federal levels, reflected not only the significance of the marriage but also the strong ties between Sarawak’s political, cultural, and community spheres.
