The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, witnessed the event.

Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad has committed RM1.8 million to the initiative, underscoring its role as a cornerstone partner.

The collaboration was inspired by the Premier’s call during the Walk for Health programme at Taman Botani Sarawak on 1 February 2026, where he encouraged corporate agencies to contribute towards enhancing the Botanic Garden.

DBKU has identified several zones within the garden to be adopted by strategic partners. Bintulu Port Authority has been entrusted with the development of the multipurpose area and the aroid garden zone.

This zone will feature a stage, multipurpose facilities, parking areas, and an expanded collection of aroid plant species.

Beyond financial support, Bintulu Port Authority will act as a technical partner, assisting in planning, documentation and implementation.

The master plan covers approximately 35.50 acres and is divided into eight thematic zones: the Hanging Garden, Multipurpose Area and Aroid Garden, Formal Garden, Fern Garden and Shed, Core Garden, Bamboo Garden, Multipurpose Area and Parking, and Second Alternative Access and Parking.

Phase 1 of the project, supported by RM1 million, will focus on the development of the multipurpose area and stage.

Phase 2, backed by RM800,000, will introduce the Aroid Garden. Together, these efforts aim to create inclusive community spaces while promoting biodiversity and green infrastructure.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment between public and private sectors to enhance Sarawak’s ecological assets.

It is expected to provide residents and visitors with improved recreational facilities while reinforcing Kuching’s reputation as a city that values sustainability and community well-being.
