KAPIT – The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Sibu has carried out its first major operation in Kapit town under Operation Perdana Number 2 of 2026, aimed at tackling drug abuse in the district.
The enforcement exercise took place yesterday from 5 pm until 1 am, involving two officers and six members.
During the operation, raids were conducted at several separate locations around Kapit. A total of 12 individuals, aged between 22 and 66, were detained.
Subsequent urine screening revealed that 11 of them tested positive for methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu.
AADK Chief Azimah Marsid was present to oversee the operation, which targeted suspected drug abuse activities in the area.
The detainees, comprising eight men and three women, were held under Section 3(1) of the Drug and Substance Abusers and Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
Authorities emphasised that the operation was part of a wider strategy to curb drug abuse and provide opportunities for rehabilitation.
AADK has urged individuals struggling with addiction to come forward voluntarily for treatment and recovery before enforcement action is taken.
The agency assured that voluntary recovery services are conducted safely, confidentially, and without legal repercussions.
