MATU DARO – The IPD Matu-Daro has successfully concluded a case involving criminal threats and property damage in Kampung Penuai, resulting in the conviction of a 24-year-old local man.
The incident, which occurred on 14 April 2026, involved threats against the suspect’s own mother. According to police reports, the man demanded money from the victim and threatened to kill her if his demands were not met. During the altercation, he also damaged the family home by breaking through a wall.
Officers from the Matu-Daro Criminal Investigation Division moved swiftly to apprehend the suspect. Following his arrest, an initial urine screening revealed positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Further checks confirmed that the man had three prior records related to criminal and narcotics offences.
The case was investigated under Section 506 and Section 427 of the Penal Code, covering criminal intimidation and mischief causing damage.
Police obtained a four-day remand order to facilitate the investigation, after which the case papers were referred to the deputy public prosecutor in Sarawak.
On 16 April 2026, the suspect was formally charged at the Daro Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, effective from the date of his arrest. He is currently serving his sentence at Sibu Prison.
The district police chief emphasised that the swift handling of the case demonstrated the commitment of law enforcement to protect victims of domestic threats and ensure accountability for offenders.
Authorities also highlighted the importance of community vigilance, urging residents to report incidents of violence or intimidation promptly.
Cases involving family members can be particularly sensitive, but police stressed that threats and acts of violence will be treated with the same seriousness as other criminal offences.
The conviction serves as a reminder that intimidation and property damage carry significant legal consequences under Malaysian law.
The Matu-Daro District Police Headquarters reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining public safety and protecting vulnerable individuals.
Officers noted that continued cooperation between the community and law enforcement remains vital in preventing similar incidents in the future.
