KUCHING – Police have acted swiftly following a viral complaint shared on the Kuching King Sarawak Daily Facebook page concerning a traffic violation at Bukit Berangan Traffic Light, Jalan Dato’ Mohd Musa, on 17 April 2026.
At around 2.30pm, a lorry with registration number DDG9221 was reported to have run a red light, endangering other motorists at the busy intersection.
The incident, captured and circulated online, prompted widespread concern among road users and drew immediate attention from the authorities.
The Kota Samarahan District Traffic Enforcement Division (BSPTD K/Shan) launched an investigation into the matter. Officers successfully traced the driver of the lorry on 20 April 2026.
Enforcement action was taken with a summons issued under POL257 through the MCOPS system. The summons, numbered L0677G000306, was recorded against the driver for violating a red traffic light.
Police stressed that such behaviour poses serious risks, particularly at intersections where traffic flow is heavy and unpredictable.
Running a red light not only endangers the driver but also jeopardises the safety of pedestrians and other vehicles.
Authorities highlighted that strict enforcement is necessary to deter reckless driving and to protect lives.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) reiterated its commitment to upholding traffic laws and ensuring public safety.
Officials noted that viral reports on social media often assist enforcement teams in identifying offenders more quickly, but they emphasised that drivers must take responsibility for their actions on the road.
Community members have expressed support for the enforcement, recognising that visible action against offenders helps maintain order and reassures the public that dangerous behaviour will not be overlooked.

Authorities concluded by reminding the public that traffic offences are taken seriously, especially those that can endanger lives.
