SIBU: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist after his vehicle was involved in a collision with a cement lorry at a busy traffic light intersection along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, here, on Tuesday morning.
According to a spokesman from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre, an emergency call was received at approximately 10.10am reporting the incident. Following the alert, a team from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the accident involved a motorcycle and a cement lorry. The victim, identified as an adult male, was found trapped beneath the heavy vehicle. The situation required careful coordination between rescue personnel and authorities to manage the recovery process.
A medical officer from the Ministry of Health who arrived at the scene later confirmed that the motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries. The victim was pronounced dead on the spot, highlighting the severity of the collision.
Firefighters then assisted the police in removing the victim’s body from beneath the lorry using a stretcher. The remains were subsequently handed over to the police for further procedures, including identification and post-mortem arrangements.
The incident caused concern among road users in the area, as the intersection is known to be busy, especially during peak hours. Authorities have yet to release further details on the cause of the accident, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal collision.
